Robbers swiftly arrested

Two suspected robbers were quickly tracked down and arrested by police in Moreleta Park on Wednesday morning.

Two suspected robbers were swiftly tracked down and arrested in a neighbourhood in Moreletapark in the early hours of Wednesday morning. According to one of the victims’ neighbours, he heard dogs barking and saw flashlights in the yard through his window at around 02:00.

“As I called in the incident on our Community Policing Forum radio, one of the suspects jumped over the wall and started running down Myra Street,” he said.

“Within minutes, there were about 20 people patrolling the area and on the lookout for the suspects. The suspects started jumping over walls. But with all the alarms going off and dogs barking, the CPF were able to track their whereabouts.”

The Garsfontein police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dave Muller, said that the two men were caught in a field about 800 m from the crime scene. Muller confirmed that the suspects were still in custody and said that they would appear in court within 48 hours.

“Electronic equipment was recovered and returned to the victims,” Muller told Rekord.

He also said that although the witness claimed the men were armed, no firearms were recovered by the police.

The witness praised the Sector 4 CPF in Moreleta Park, the SAPS and dog unit and the security companies involved for their quick reaction and selfless service to the community.
