Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee held at gunpoint

Police said Crime Line boss Yusuf Abramjee and his family were victims of armed robbery after their home in Erasmia was broken into on Friday morning.

Police are on a hunt for two suspects after Crime Line head Yusuf Abramjee and his family were held at gunpoint at their home in Erasmia on Friday morning.

Provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the two alleged robbers had allegedly broken into another home before they went to the house of the Abramjee family.

“The two suspects were interrupted by police when they attempted to break into a house on Senorita Street in Erasmia. They fled the scene and left behind a blue Mercedes Benz.”

It is then that the robbers went to Abramjee’s house to continue with their robberies. “It is believed that the suspects jumped over the electric fence before they robbed the family of a BMW at gunpoint,” said Dlamini.

Several shots were fired as the suspects drove out in the BMW.

“A shoot-out between the owner of the house and the suspects took place after the suspects started to fire several shots,” Dlamini said.

Nobody was injured during the shoot-out or two house robberies.

Police responded within several minutes but the suspects had already fled.

“It is believed they used the BMW as a getaway vehicle after they had left the Mercedes Benz at the first house,” Dlamini added.

Dlamini stated that house-breaking equipment was found in the abandoned Mercedes Benz.

“On further investigation, police established that the Mercedes Benz which was left at the scene of the first house robbery was stolen in Erasmia on the Wednesday 19 November,” he said.

Police are still searching for Abramjee’s BMW. “We are following several leads and a breakthrough may be made soon,” said Dlamini.

He urges anyone with information to come forward. “Police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of the suspects to contact Crime Stop at 08600 1011 or information may anonymously be forwarded to Primedia Crime Line at 32211 at all hours,” Dlamini concluded.
