Henning: Gouws to spill the beans
Businessman Andre Gouws, who was found guilty of murdering Chanelle Henning, said that he will speak to the state regarding Henning’s husband, Nico's, involvement in the murder.
One of the two men found guilty of murdering Chanelle Henning agreed on Wednesday to speak to the state regarding Henning’s husband’s involvement in the crime.
Former Nigerian olympic athlete Ambrose Monye and businessman Andre Gouws were on Monday found guilty by the High Court in Pretoria of the murder of Henning.
Henning (26) was gunned down in Faerie Glen shortly after she had dropped her son off at his creche in Faerie Glen in November 2011.
She was at the time involved in a custody battle with her former husband, Nico, who was a close friend of Gouws.
Sentencing proceedings against Gouws and Ambrose Monye were postponed on Wednesday morning to the 5th December, after prosecutor Gerrie Nel reportedly stated in court that there had been a significant development in the murder case.
Nel reportedly told Judge Johan Kruger that one of the accused has decided to assist the state in investigating another person involved in the crime.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesman, Medupi Sumasiku reportedly confirmed that the person is Nico’s close friend Gouws.
During the trial of Gouws and Monye’s trial it was reportedly heard that Nico had the motive to have his wife killed in order to obtain custody of his son.
Gouws will be held at the Villieria Police Station, where investigators will be able to question him.
Former policeman Gerhardus du Plessis and his friend Willem Pieterse are currently serving 18-year prison sentences after confessing to the murder in December 2011, just a month after the shooting.
The two then turned state witness and implicated Gouws and Monye.
