Suspect arrested for attempted hijacking

Women held at gunpoint during attempted hijacking.

One of four suspects were arrested Thursday morning in Atteridgeville by police for attempting to hijack a woman in Valhalla.

Police spokesperson Captain Agnus Huma told Rekord that a 22-year old man, along with three other suspects, tried to hijack the women as she drove out of her drive-way in a white Toyota Corolla.

Three of the suspects approached her as she was reversing from the yard and closing the gate. “They forced her at gunpoint to open the door and tried to smash the window on the passenger’s side,” Huma said. “The woman reacted instantaneously and reversed as quickly as possible.”

According to Huma the suspects fled in a Red Toyota Tazz.

The police were informed to be on the lookout for these suspects.

Warrant Officer Wayne Crew spotted the vehicle on the R55 near Maunde Street. He followed the suspects into Atteridgeville.

Three suspects jumped out of the car with their weapons before they could be apprehended.

The 22-year old driver was arrested and detained at the Wierdabrug police station.

He will soon appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court, Huma said.
