Gouws: ‘I was hired by Nico Henning to murder Chanelle’
Andre Gouws reportedly told the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday that he was hired by Nico Henning to murder Chanelle.
Andre Gouws, one of the two men found guilty of murdering Chanelle Henning reportedly told the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday that Henning’s husband, Nico hired him to commit the murder.
An emotional Gouws read a statement in court on Thursday saying that Nico had asked him to murder Chanelle, but he couldn’t do it himself, so he hired former Nigerian olympic athlete Ambrose Monye. The motive was custody of Henning’s son.
“I’ve known Nico for 23 years, I also knew Chanelle. After their marriage they experienced problems. Nico hired me to have drugs planted on Chanelle. Nico took me to Chanelle’s house, showed me her routes to work,” Gouws reportedly said in court.
Gouws said he will co-operate with the state and testify in the case.
Gouws agreed last week to speak to the state regarding Henning’s husband’s involvement in the crime.
This comes after Gouws and Monye were found guilty by the High Court in Pretoria of the murder of Henning.
Henning (26) was gunned down in Faerie Glen shortly after she had dropped her son off at his creche in Faerie Glen in November 2011.
She was at the time involved in a custody battle with her former husband, Nico, who was a close friend of Gouws.
Sentencing proceedings against Gouws and Ambrose Monye were postponed, after prosecutor Gerrie Nel reportedly stated in court that there had been a significant development in the murder case.
Nel reportedly told Judge Johan Kruger that one of the accused has decided to assist the state in investigating another person involved in the crime.
The National Prosecuting Authority spokesman, Medupi Sumasiku reportedly confirmed that the person is Nico’s close friend Gouws.
During the trial of Gouws and Monye’s trial it was reportedly heard that Nico had the motive to have his wife killed in order to obtain custody of his son.
Former policeman Gerhardus du Plessis and his friend Willem Pieterse are currently serving 18-year prison sentences after confessing to the murder in December 2011, just a month after the shooting.
The two then turned state witness and implicated Gouws and Monye.
