Fuel prices to increase again
Fuel prices increasing yet again, putting more and more pressure on consumers.
Fuel prices will be increasing again on Wednesday, 2 April, placing even more pressure on embattled consumers.
According to the Department of Energy, petrol prices will increase due to both international and local factors, including crude oil import costs and fuel levies.
Petrol (93 octane) will increase with 5c/l, while petrol (95 octane) will increase with 7c/l.
The good news is that diesel prices will decrease with as much as 8,8c/l.
Though the Incremental Inland Transport Recovery System (IITRS) levy of 3,0c/l has been included in the fuel price to compensate for the cost of transporting petroleum products from Durban to the inland markets since 2008, this levy has been repealed by the Minister of Energy, with effect from 2 April.
For Gauteng as well as other inland markets, this will mean 3c/l less on the pump price.
According to the Minister of Energy, Dikobe Ben Martins, “the scrapping of the 3,0c/l levy due to the commissioning of the multiproduct pipeline has had a positive effect on the latest fuel price adjustments. This is consistent with government’s programme to build new infrastructure that benefits South Africans”.
“The decrease in the price of illuminating paraffin and LPG will benefit households that use these products, especially as winter approaches”, the minister concluded.
