Man arrested after high speed chase
A man was recently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm in Eersterust.
Eersterust police have arrested a 21-year-old man in Eersterust for possession of an unlicensed firearm in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to Eersterust police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambu, they arrested the man shortly after police spotted a suspicious vehicle driving towards Mamelodi on Stormvoël Road.
Police signalled the driver to stop, but he refused and sped off. “A chase ensued and the police managed to stop the vehicle at Blaauberg Street, Eersterust, where the suspect was confronted. Police then asked the suspect for permission to search him and he granted it. While they were busy searching him the police found a 9mm pistol on his person,” Sibambu said.
The man was arrested and detained at Eersterust SAPS for possession of an unlicensed firearm. The firearm has since being send for ballistic tests to establish whether it had been used in any crime.
According to Shibambu, the suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court soon.
