Fallen tree causes power outages

Tshwane Metro again provided quick service after a fallen tree caused power outages in Waverley on Thursday.

Tshwane metro recently saved the day with quick response to repair damaged electrical cables after a tree in Waverley fell over. This was the third time in two weeks residents have lauded Tshwane metro on quick service delivery during a crisis.

According to Frans Smith, councillor for Ward 52, residents were impressed with the service of the metro after Thursday’s hectic winds blew over a tree on the corner of Breyer Avenue and Bosloerie Street around 17:00. The tree had broken several electrical cables and several live wires were posing a threat to any passers-by. Some burned or snapped off.

The damaged cables also caused a power outage across an approximate four block radius in the surrounding the area.

“Tshwane arrived promptly after the incident and worked well into the night in order to repair the damaged cables. By 11:30 the electricity had been restored,” Smith said.

Rekord reported in October about two other trees in the Moot area that also fell over on the same night during a rough storm. One, a thorn tree landed on the palisade of Laerskool Hermanstad and took volunteers nearly an hour to remove. The other tree was a Jacaranda that fell across the road on the corner of 33rd Avenue and Ben Swart Street.

Here, again, the quick assistance and support by Tshwane metro left residents in the area grateful. “We are delighted at the appreciation expressed by our customers about our improved service delivery. We will strive to continue improving our services. Sometimes we don’t get things right, but it is not due to a lack of trying. From now on our customers will see a different and an improved response to service delivery issues,” said Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.
