A tree was uprooted in the east of Pretoria on Friday afternoon, presumably because of a stong wind.
It fell across Albert Street in Waterkloof around 15:00 on Friday, crashing over a wall and pulling down power cables.
A resident living across the road, Suzanne Bezuidenhout, said she arrived home from work just after 15:00 and saw the tree blocking the road.
“I am not sure what happened but maybe a strong gust is to blame or it must have been rotten.”
Bezuidenhout said the power was out as the tree had damaged power cables.
The owners of the house where it fell were not at home.
“They are gone for three days. I do not know if anyone has informed then, but the neighbourhood has arranged for a guard at the house now that the wall is broken.”
The tree was already being cut up and moved out of the road when Rekord was on scene around 15:20.
Another tree was uprooted in Waverley on Thursday.
Ward 82 councillor Siobhan Muller said: “If the correct maintenance is being done on these trees regularly, problems like these, where power cables are pulled down, will not occur as frequently.”
Comment from the Tshwane metro could not be obtained immediately.
