Ga-Rankuwa police and residents have vowed to deal swiftly with the culprits behind cable theft that has been rife in the area for the past two years. Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said police are still gearing to partake in various initiatives that will lead to cable theft being a thing of the past in the township.
He said they are planning to have meetings with various community leaders in their cluster and several stakeholders to plot ways to curb cable theft. “Last month we had a joint campaign with iMvula Quality Protection to highlight the plight of cable theft and we are pulling all the strings to make sure this problem is addressed.”
“This has been a huge problem in the community and we are planning to implement strategies that will curb it. Cable theft has been affecting a lot people in our area.” Nkoadi said cable theft had also affected train services. “The theft of cables has in many cases delayed trains and also put the lives of residents in danger.”
