Load shedding warning by Eskom

Eskom has warned that load-shedding might take place today (Wednesday), despite no request being sent to the City of Tshwane as yet.

Eskom has warned that the country’s power grid is under pressure due to a loss of some generating units and that as a result, they might implement load-shedding. “Because the risk is too high, we warn that load-shedding should be expected anytime today (Wednesday) until 22:00,” Eskom announced.

The power supplier has pleaded with the country to continue using electricity sparingly in order to avoid power cuts.

Spokesperson for the City of Tshwane, Lindela Mahigo, said the city had not yet received a request from Eskom to perform load shedding and they worked according to the schedule on the internet.

Last year, the country suffered a number of power cuts due to the collapse of a coal silo at Eskom’s Majuba power station in Mpumalanga. For tips on how to survive load shedding, click here.
