Filling station robbers still at large

Two armed robbers filmed at an R21 filling station in January are still at large.

Police were on Wednesday still searching for two armed robbers captured last week on a closed circuit television camera at a filling station between Pretoria and Kempton Park.

Spokesperson Lt-Col Katlego Mogale said members of the public had come forward with information about the culprits.

“However, the information that we have received from the public could not help us to determine the whereabouts of the suspects.”

The video footage taken at the filling station on the R21 on 17 January shows two passengers of a Volkswagen getting out and walking towards another Volkswagen at the petrol pump next to them.

The driver of the first Volkswagen appeared to be sitting inside the car while his accomplices carried out the robbery. One of them forced his hand inside the vehicle of the two robbery victims while they were sitting inside the car.

The second man seemingly tried to open the boot. The first robber grabbed what appeared to be a backpack out of the driver’s window while another took a bag from the boot.

Three petrol attendants were seen nonchalantly walking past while watching the men operate, who finally drove off.

Mogale said police were making use of the footage in the search for the two men.
