Police were on Wednesday still searching for the killers of a taxi boss in the city centre last Friday.
Central police spokesperson Sergeant Ann Poortman confirmed the investigation into the matter was continuing, saying: “The suspects are still at large.”
Jonas Tseke was gunned down in an apparent assassination at Bloed Mall Taxi Rank in the city centre on Friday afternoon.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said the taxi boss was shot by one of two men waiting for him in the area.
“One of the men opened fire on the taxi boss before the pair ran away,” the eyewitness said.
The 51-year-old Tseke, chairperson of Central Top 11 taxi association, was shot several times in the upper body and was declared dead on the scene. His body was found on the seat of the taxi he was driving.
Family member William Mametse said Tseke’s next of kin felt devastated.
“We didn’t expect it and its the first time a brutal incident such as this happened in the family,” Mametse said.
Tseke left behind his wife and two children, a two-year-old girl and a 24-year-old son.
His funeral service will take place at Mashemong Section in Hammanskraal on Friday.
