Quick thinking and teamwork landed four Centurion burglars behind bars on Wednesday afternoon.
Hannes Laage of Monitor Net and officers from the S.T.O.P (Specialized Tactical Operations Personnel) team, Etienne Louw, Martin Siebert and Christopher-Lee Steenkamp, were out on patrol when they were alerted of a burglary.
Via a lookout notification on the ZELLO smartphone application, they were notified of a white Toyota Tazz, with registration number JBM 667 GP, that was used in a house robbery.
The officers went to the scene of the burglary, where the homeowner gave them a description of the robbers.
“Another ZELLO call reported the sighting of the vehicle in Botha Avenue in Lyttelton, driving towards Pretoria Central. With feedback provided by the ZELLO users and the CCC (Centurion Concerned Citizens) reaction team, our officers were able to stop the suspects’ vehicle on the corner of Hofmeyer and Botha avenues in Lyttelton,” said Laage.
“We would like to thank the ZELLO group for the info, constant broadcasting and participation in making the arrest, as well as all CCC reaction group members who assisted to make this arrest. Without the help from these groups our fight against crime would be fruitless. Centurion residents, you are tops.”
The four men were arrested by the Lyttelton police.
