Four of the eight men who were accused of kidnapping a Bangladeshi national have been released, according to Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi.
Nine men were arrested recently after eight allegedly held a man hostage last Tuesday. Nkoadi said the matter was heard at the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court where four of the men were acquitted.
When the Bangladeshi national was held hostage the kidnappers allegedly contacted his uncle and demanded R200 000. The uncle immediately contacted the police. Investigations led them to Bapong near Brits in the North West where all nine men, including the kidnapped victim, were arrested. The police are still investigating the matter.
“The remaining five will appear in court for bail application on 20 February, including the alleged victim,” said Nkoadi.
