Metro police seize fake-brand goods
Metro police confiscated a massive amount of fake-brand goods in Marabastad on Friday.
Tshwane metro police have warned those selling fake-brand goods in the city that they would face the long arm of the law.
The warning came after an operation by the metro police and clothing brand owners uncovered a massive amount of fake-brand items in Marabastad on Friday.
The goods were sold at informal trader stalls. Others found in big bins and bags had familiar brands including All Star, Nike and Adidas.
Metro police spokesperson Superintendent Kuki Tshabalala said more than 15 officers paid a surprise visit to Marabastad and confiscated goods such as shoes, T-shirts and jeans.
The operation took place after various brand owners complained about fake-brand items being sold in Marabastad.
“We are going to continue with our surprise visit to fight against such goods in the city. People found selling them will be arrested,” Tshabalala said.
Tshabalala urged residents not buy these items.
“If you need Nike, Adidas and other big brands go and buy them from reputable shops and not from the street. Fake-brand goods are imitations with inferior quality and do not offer value for money.”
No one was arrested as the sellers made a quick getaway when they saw the metro police.
The recovered goods were believed to be from China would be destroyed.
