Hillcrest pool will remain open

Councillor Kate Prinsloo dismisses rumours about the Hillcrest public pool being closed.

After some confusion, it has been announced that the Hillcrest swimming pool will not be closed during winter. According to Democratic Alliance (DA) ward councillor Kate Prinsloo, false information was spread.

“It seems some of the general workers sent out messages to people to say the pool would close. This is not true. All other public pools in Pretoria will be closed for the winter from 1 April to 1 September. Hillcrest, however, will be kept open.”

This comes after residents visiting the pool were told by workers that they wouldn’t be able to use the pool during winter.

Prinsloo said plans were being made to keep the pool open for the whole winter. “We have sent an urgent application through to have funds allocated from the Integrated Development Plan to keep the pool open for the whole winter. This is so that we can avoid repeating last year’s problems, when the pool was closed because no money was left to be able to heat the pool. Lots of water polo teams train here, and it is essential to keep it open. The money will be allocated in June, but we will hopefully know before then whether or not the pool will remain open for the entire winter. We will update people as soon as we know,” said Prinsloo.
