Curro Thatchfield Independent School officially opened the doors of its new high school on Thursday, 28 May 2015.  It was a joyous celebration where the learners displayed their dance and singing talents.

Dr Chris van der Merwe, CEO of Curro Holdings, announced: “Don’t sit on the pavilion – be in the arena”.

This was to inspire the young adults of Curro Thatchfield to constantly strive to reach their potential. He also impressed upon the audience the importance and value of trust, kindness, and that teachers, parents and learners must all work together to prepare the youth for life in the world after school.

“The diversity of our country is our greatest asset,” Dr van der Merwe said.

Curro has 42 schools with 36 000 learners throughout the country.  Curro was established in Cape Town in 1998, and in January 2013, Curro Thatchfield opened its doors in Thatchfield Hills in Centurion with 800 learners and 45 educators.

Today the school has grown to 2 111 learners with 125 educators. The school also boasts grounds for rugby and other sports facilities to train top sportsmen and women to compete with the best in the country.  It is estimated that the enrolment at Curro Thatchfield will grow to 3 000 learners in the near future.  The target is to have 10 classes of 25 learners per grade, 3 months – Grade 12.

Dr Van der Merwe and Mrs Marlene Gerber, Executive Head at Curro Thatchfield, unveiled a plaque to remember this day.  The morning concluded with the release of white Curro balloons floating into the distance while the learners sang their hearts out.
