A body of a man has been discovered at a dumping site in Temba, Hammanskraal on Friday morning, police said.
Spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the body of a 51-year-old man covered with frost was found in the early hours of Friday.
“Women who work at the dumping site said the dead man started coming to the site last year and on Monday he came to the site with his blankets. When he was asked why he was sleeping at the dumping site, he allegedly told the women he had been chased away by his family,” Moremi said.
The women noticed the man was coughing blood on Thursday evening and called an ambulance before they left for home. They were surprised when police told them about the man’s death and that the ambulance never arrived.
“A witness says a man was hired by the women to look after their bags at the dumping site but the women have since denied the claims. It is alleged that the dead man had been suffering from tuberculosis as he had TB medication on him,” Moremi said.
Police are investigating the death of the man and waiting for post-mortem results to confirm the cause of death.
