Police clamp down on drugs in Eersterust
A 24-year-old man has been arrested by the Eersterust police for being in possession of the drug CAT.
A young man has been caught with drugs in his possession in Eersterust, police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said the 25-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday and CAT of about R700 and an amount of cash were seized.
He said this happened during an anti-crime operation that focused on patrols in drug-related hotspots with the assistance of the K9 dog unit.
“During the operation, police stopped a Volkswagen Citi Golf without registration plates. With the driver’s permission, police searched the vehicle and found the drugs in a zip-locked bag and money.”
The man appeared in the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In another crime, a 30-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after clothes were taken from a store in Hans Coverdale West Road.
“The man confessed that he stole clothing for his sister’s baby shower later that afternoon,” Shibambo said.
The man was being detained at the Eersterust police and would appear in the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court soon.
