Two suspects arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder
Two men who robbed and tried to kill one of the four friends returning from a tuckshop in Winterveldt have been arrested.
Two men were arrested on Wednesday after a robbery and attempted murder near a tuckshop in Winterveldt.
One of victims told police he was returning from Lamb Tuckshop in the company of three other friends on Tuesday night, when they were accosted by the two robbers.
“One of the suspects was in possession of a firearm and shot one of the victims in his right leg before searching them. The attackers took three cellphones and R930 in cash,” said police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu.
“The wounded man was taken to Ga-Rankuwa Hospital for medical treatment,” said Chabangu.
The three cellphones taken from the victims were recovered from the arrested men. They were expected to appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.
Chabangu warned people to avoid walking around with large sums of money in their pockets.
