Pretoria finals of Red Bull FMX tightly contested
The Pretoria leg of the competition is tightly contested
Tom Pages excelled in a sizzling Red Bull X Fighters Motocross qualifying event at the Union Buildings on Friday.
The Frenchman accumulated 89.8 points after he performed the most dangerous and difficult stunts of the entire tournament.
The 30-year-old beat the overall high scorer of the tour, Clinton Moore from Australia, in what could easily have been the final run of the tour.
Besides his signature Bike Flip, Special Flip and Alley-Oop Flair, Pages also landed the Transfer Flip which he had just mastered to clinch the day’s high score.
Moore’s poor performance was attributed to neck injuries he suffered at the Australian leg of the tour last week.
Close on Pages’ heels was Australian, Rob Adelberg in second place and Japanese Taka Higashino who claimed the third spot owing to his tricks which included the First Flair.
Defending champion Josh Sheehan delivered his rarely-seen double Backflip to land fourth position.
The Pretoria finals on Saturday afternoon were sure to be a thrilling competition.
