National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer is almost here!
Looking for a reason to indulge in some delicious cupcakes for a good cause? Here’s why you need to get involved in Cupcakes of Hope:
Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit company that aims to raise awareness and funds for families in need of medical assistance by spreading the love through their love of cupcakes. They host several events throughout the year, but their main event is National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer, which is set to be held on 26 September this year. This is an entirely community-driven project and an amazing event that brings the whole community together for a great cause – fighting childhood cancer and, of course, cupcakes.
You can bake, buy or sell cupcakes for the cause, or throw your own Party of Hope. The Pretoria malls that are involved are: Atterbury Value Mart, Kolonnade Retail Park, Kolonnade Shopping Centre, The Grove and Woodlands Boulevard. Non-bakers can also get involved by volunteering on the day, or by donating products towards the day’s event.
Where does the money go? Cupcakes of Hope has a number of beneficiaries, and they touch many lives. One such example is 14-year-old Gerhard, who lost his leg due to cancer. Cupcakes of Hope donated R60 000 to pay for his new prosthesis. Another time, R25 000 was donated to Reef Carneson and R20 000 to baby Mark Scott. The funds are also used to grant some special wishes (a family holiday for a terminally ill child, sports memorabilia for a little cancer warrior, a birthday party and gifts for a special 4-year-old patient, the list goes on… Their beneficiaries include: Cansa, Reach for a Dream, The Sunflower Fund, CHOC, Little Fighters Cancer Trust, and Hospice, to name a few.
