Shootout outside Cornwall Hill

Three arrested after shootout outside school.

One robber was wounded, two arrested and one escaped after being cornered in a shootout with security guards outside Cornwall Hill college on Tuesday afternoon.

Hugo Erasmus, head of the Lyttelton Sector 1 Community Policing Forum said four men in a silver VW Polo robbed a house in Lyttelton Manor on Tuesday morning, and were in the process of robbing another in Turnhouse Street in Highveld when they were interrupted.

Monitor Net then picked up on this and pursued the men to Nellmapius Drive, when the driver stopped and three men jumped out and ran on foot and shot at the Monitor Net officer while the driver sped away,” said Erasmus.

He said Monitor Net gave chase and shot one of them in the leg. The other two were apprehended by security officers and handed to the Lyttelton police. The driver is still at large.

Orange Fox security who were also on scene, praised the efforts of  EBS Security in helping to catch the men.

Braam Kruger of Emer-G-Med confirmed one man was treated on scene before being rushed to hospital.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Hero Gumbu said “We are investigating a case of house breaking and attempted murder. The shot suspect is in hospital under police guard.”
