Court case against local Cllr postponed again
Court case postponed again due to missing information.
A copy of a docket with missing information led the court to postpone again the appearance of the fraud accused Nellmapius councillor, Precious Marole.
The councillor briefly appeared in the Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday after the case was transferred from the Pretoria Regional Court and was postponed to 30 November.
Charges against him were laid in 2012 at the Silverton police station by Winnie Mashela of Nellmapius. Mashela claimed she applied to the municipality in that year for approval to open a crèche. She applied through the Tshwane metro for a piece of land in 2010.
Everything was approved, but she needed a letter of recommendation from Marole to complete the application process. She said Marole demanded money for this and kept on postponing signing the letter.
Mashela expressed exasperation at the delays in the matter. “I am very disappointed in our department of justice. The case is taking so long. I want to move on with my life.”
“I was told the case had been postponed to November for further investigation, because the court did not receive a copy of the original docket and there were missing information,” said Mashela.
Mashela claimed she had paid councillor Marole a total of R43 000. Some of the money was paid into his business account while the other money was given to the councillor per hand.
Councillor Precious Marole denied all the allegations made against him by Winnie Mashela. Economic Freedom Fighters member, Vusi Msiza, said he was disappointed by our system.
“Justice must be done. The case had been dragging too long. We are going to follow the case until the end.”
