‘Stern action’ expected against speeding Hofmeyr

Armand Hofmeyr caught speeding on the N4.

Armand Hofmeyr, son of controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr, was arrested on Sunday afternoon after he was allegedly caught speeding.

Busaphi Nxumalo, spokesperson for the Gauteng Traffic Police, said Hofmeyr was allegedly driving a white Ford ST at 185km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N4 near Bronkhorstspruit at 14:32.

Nxumalo said it was not the first time that Hofmeyr had been caught speeding.

“In 2011 he was caught speeding by the JMPD. Later, he was also caught drinking and driving,” said Nxumalo.

“This is his third offence in five years. No matter if you are a politician or a celebrity, we must all obey the law and this is unacceptable.”

She said Hofmeyr would appear in the magistrate’s court on Monday morning on charges of reckless and negligent driving as well as excessive speeding.

She expects that stern action will be taken against him.
