UPDATE: Roodeplaat shooting was violent robbery
Man shot during violent robbery at Roodeplaat Dam.
The shooting at Roodeplaat Dam in the early hours of Sunday morning was a violent robbery.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said the man was shot during a robbery just after 01:00.
“The man had apparently heard gunshots, so he went outside the house to investigate. When he came outside he was shot in the stomach. The suspect then stole tablets, computers and cellphones before fleeing on foot,” said Dlamini.
Dries Kemp, shareholder at the Hengelaars Vriend resort, said the man was living in a small cabin called Eagle’s Nest.
“Eagle’s Nest is a small cabin on the waterfront between The Blades and Hengelaars Vriend. It is rented out to holidaymakers,” said Kemp.
When Kemp and the staff at Hengelaars Vriend and The Blades heard of the shooting, they assisted the wounded man and directed paramedics to collect the man from Hengelaars Vriend.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha confirmed that Netcare paramedics airlifted the critically wounded man to a nearby hospital.
Dlamini has called on anyone with information on the shooting and the suspect to phone CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
