Paralympian Oscar Pistorius’s parole has been delayed again.

The department of correctional services confirmed after the hearing on Monday that the review board had set aside the decision to release Pistorius under correctional supervision and referred it back to the parole board.

Review board chairperson Judge Lucy Mailula ordered Pistorius be subjected to psychotherapy to address the criminogenic factors of the crime he committed.

The review board upheld Justice Minister Michael Masutha’s appeal.

The parole board had in June decided to release Pistorius to correctional supervision on 21 August, but on the eve of the release, Masutha appealed to the review board arguing that when the parole board sat to consider Pistorius’ parole, he had not served a sixth of his five-year sentence as the law envisaged.

“The parole board had acted prematurely when it decided in June that he could be released in August,” said Masutha.

The paralympian was jailed last year for culpable homicide after shooting dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

He shot her through the locked door of his Pretoria home toilet on Valentine’s Day in 2013, claiming he thought she was an intruder.

In October last year, High Court Judge Thokozile Masipa found Pistorius guilty.

Pistorius is being held in the Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria.
