Two die after Centurion fire
Police confirm that Olivenhoutbosch fire was domestic violence.
An Olievenhoutbosch man has died from burn wounds he suffered in a blaze he started in anger at the weekend.
A woman also died because of the fire and five other people were in a critical condition, said police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.
He said a couple in the house had a heated argument on Sunday night, which ended in the man locking the woman inside.
The man then poured petrol and set the house alight.
“The fire quickly spread to the neighbour’s house as the structures were standing close together,” said Moloto.
A massive inferno engulfed both houses.
A family of four inside the second house, two of whom are young children under the age of five, were badly burned and left critically injured by the fire.
The man and the woman inside the first house were also injured.
The man who started the fire later died of his wounds in hospital.
“A woman also died of her injuries after the fire. It has not been confirmed if this is the woman who was locked inside the house,” said Moloto.
Moloto said an inquest was underway.
