Victim shoots dead would-be robber
A suspect house robber was shot and killed by his elderly victim.
A suspected house robber was shot and killed in a house in Annlin when he attacked an elderly couple with a panga.
A police statement said the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday.
The robber gained entry into the house of an elderly couple, aged between 60 and 70, but was spotted by the woman who called to her husband for help.
“It is alleged that the suspect attempted to confront the lady but was intercepted by the lady’s husband.
The suspect attacked the complainant with a panga which belonged to the complainant and had apparently been in the garage,” stated police spokesperson Mirna von Benecke.
“The complainant defended himself and shot and fatally wounded the suspect.
“The identity and age of the intruder is unknown as he had no identification on him.”
Police found the couple’s domestic worker’s cell phone in the intruder’s possession.
A case of house robbery is being investigated and an inquest docket was also opened at the Sinoville police station.
