The police are still looking for four women involved in a spate of robberies in and around Pretoria.
Brooklyn police spokesperson captain Colette Weilbach said on Thursday, the four were also being investigated for similar offences in other parts of Gauteng.
“Police are still investigating a string of house robbery cases related to the four women,” she said.
“We cannot provide any sensitive information as this might tip them off.”
She said the police were following leads. Weilbach said the last case involving the four was an attempted house robbery in Menlo Park last Friday.
Two women jumped out of a silver vehicle while a 57-year old domestic worker was watering the garden and asked to use the bathroom.
After the domestic worker directed them to bathroom in the outside building, two more entered the yard and one ran inside the house.
When the domestic house tried to stop her, the other three threatened her with a firearm.
The four left after allegedly stealing cash and a laptop, said Weilbach.
On September 18, Marthie Stevens from Centurion almost became a victim.
Stevens, a 66-year-old pensioner from Wierda Park, said she knew something was wrong when one of the women insisted on entering her home to use the bathroom even though she had told them to use the one outside.
Stevens, who runs a furniture repair shop from her yard with the help of two assistants, said her employee Aaron Sechothlo met the woman by the gate assuming she was a customer.
As he opened the gate, two more jumped out of the car and rushed onto the yard while a fourth remained in the car.
One told Sechothlo they wanted to repair a couch.
When Sechothlo said the guy who did upholstery was not available, the women asked for the bathroom.
Stevens directed them to the toilet outside but they declined claiming it was filthy.
She said one appeared to be pregnant. Stevens said she raised her voice and told them she knew they were thieves.
She said the women left when her dog came into the workshop.
“I did not open a case as nothing was taken,” Stevens said.
Police said the women seemed to be using the same modus operandi which was asking for the bathroom.
Lyttelton police spokesperson warrant officer Hero Gumbu said police were aware of the four women and a case of robbery against them was under investigation.
