Police made 52 arrests during weekend success operations.
Police arrested 52 in a blitz at the weekend.
The operation included Sunnyside, Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Villieria, Pretoria Moot and Lyttelton policing stations focusing on property and drug related crime.
“Eleven people arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods, four for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, nine for theft and shoplifting and eleven for drug related offences,” said police spokesperson Colette Weilbach.
Others were arrested for offences such as; fraud, assault, robbery common, undocumented persons, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence and drunkenness.
They will appear in the Hatfield Community and Pretoria Magistrate’s courts on Monday.
Residents of Hatfield also received training on Saturday, on different aspects of community patrolling, safety and self-defense.
Brooklyn Station Commander, Brigadier Kushie Nair commended the residents for their decision to exercise their right to combat crime within their neighbourhood.
Community patrols were in partnership with the Community Police Forum and the SA Police Service.
Residents received information on how and when they can execute a lawful citizens arrests, how to identify and report suspicious and or criminal activities to the police and how to assist with quality information on crime ‘hot-spots’.
The display group of the K9 Academy Roodeplaat gave a demonstration on how dogs were used in the detection and solving of crime.
“The residents were captivated when the dogs searched for and located different types of currencies and body fluids. One of the dogs even walked across on elevated wires. The training was completed with a practical self-defense class on how to get out of different grips and move away to safety,” Weilbach said.
The residents of Hatfield Village wanted to send a clear message to criminals that they would not tolerate crime in their neighbourhood, she said.
