Two CPF members shot in robbery
CPF sector 1 member spends hours in theatre after he was shot in the leg during a robbery.
Two Pretoria West CPF members were shot and wounded during a robbery in Danville on Sunday night.
One of them, Shimon Theron (19), vice chairperson of the Pretoria West CPF sub-forum Proclamation Hill, was in surgery in Kalafong hospital until Monday morning.
The second victim, who was still to be named, was taken to Bougainville hospital in a stable condition.
Theron’s mother, Zelia Sonja Theron said he spent three hours in theatre for a bullet to be removed from his leg and shattered bones to be fixed.
“My son is in a lot of pain since he was shot. His bones in his leg were broken too,” teary Zelia said.
She said on Monday morning her son tried dodging the bullets but was hit.
Theron and other members of the CPF were on patrol around 20:00 when three people came running to alert them about the Kwik Spar in Danville being robbed.
Dewaldt Jordaan, chairperson of the CPF sub-forum, said Theron and other members ran towards the Spar while he and the others got into their vehicles.
“We drove towards the Spar and just as we were about to turn into the road the robbers started shooting at us,” he said.
“We reversed to get away from the fire and then later got the message that Shimon was shot in the leg.”
Jordaan said another sector member and her son were held hostage during the robbery with other customers.
“The sector member told us that the robbers wanted cellphones from them. So far, I just know that the robbers apparently got away with the Spar’s sector radio,” said Jordaan.
Xander Loubser from Best Care ambulance services confirmed that a second CPF member was shot during the robbery.
Details on how this happened were not immediately available.
“We transported the one patient to Kalafong hospital and the other one to Bougainville hospital for treatment,” he said.
Zelia said her information was that five robbers with AK47’s entered the shop. This was still to be confirmed by the police at the time of going to press.
Zelia said her son was in a stable condition. She was on her way to the hospital when she spoke to Rekord and said she would give more details once she had seen her son.
