A bad smell in Pretoria West led to the discovery of a decomposing body.
The body was found on Monday morning, in a stream near the foot bridge on Transoranje Street and Vom Hagen Road.
Barries Bardenhorst, the chairman of neighbourhood watch, Area Patrol Unit, said the body was found at about 08:00.
“We were called out by members who said they could smell something bad like a dead body. We went to the scene and looked around but found nothing,” he said.
He said he and a member later went out again and that was when they found the body in the stream.
“It seems the body had been there for about a month. The fire department said they think the man is in his 30s or 40s,” said Bardenhorst.
A source told Rekord the man’s feet and head were without flesh.
“One could only see his skull and the bones on his feet but the other parts of the body had some flesh on them,” she said.
She said the body probably washed into the river, which is how it ended up there.
Police had not commented at the time of going to print.
This was the second body discovered in Pretoria West in a week.
Last Wednesday, a body of a man was found in Zeiler and Frederika streets.
The man had sustained wounds to his head.
A few weeks before, a body of a naked man was found near Quagga Centre.
