Soldier found hanged after girl’s killing

Body of a soldier was found hanged at the Snake Valley Shooting Range on Tuesday.

The decomposed body of a soldier was discovered on Tuesday evening at the Snake Valley Shooting Range.

Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the 31-year old man was believed to have killed his 27-year old girlfriend about a week earlier.

Identified to be a soldier through his name plate, he was found by another soldier, David Matlhako, who was on duty at the shooting range.

Matlhako told police he had picked up a bad smell near the shooting range and he investigated along with fellow-soldiers.

“They found their colleague hanging in a tree almost de-composed.”

The dead solder was identified as Johannes Vusimuzi Hlatswayo (31). He was still wearing his uniform.

Msimango said Hlatswayo stopped reporting for duty at Swartkops Air Force Base on 5 October. This was the same date that his girlfriend was found murdered.

Msimango said she was discovered about 400m from the tree where his body was found.

Rapetowne Beulaha Johlidze (27) was found dead near the shooting range in Centurion last Monday.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said on Thursday she was lying near her Renault Sandero vehicle with multiple stab wounds.

“At 12:30, Air Force personnel in a chopper spotted a maroon vehicle parked at an isolated spot next to the Snake Valley shooting range,” he said.

“The body of a woman was lying on the ground next to the vehicle and they contacted the police,” he said.

Moloto said investigations were underway and the outcome of a post-mortem was being awaited.

“Her personal belongings were left untouched in the Renault Sandero vehicle and it was established that she resided in Tembisa,” Moloto said.
