CPF members recovering after shooting
CPF members shot during a robbery recovering well, one at home and the other still in hospital.
Two Pretoria West CPF members shot and wounded during a robbery in Danville on Sunday night are recovering well.
One of them, Hennie Prinsloo (60) was discharged from Bougainville Hospital to recover at home after being shot under his arm.
“The doctor said they could not remove the bullet from my body because it is stuck between my muscles. He said if there were any problems, I should come back,” said Prinsloo.
He said on Tuesday he was happy to be back home.
The other victim, Shimon Theron (19), vice chairperson of the Pretoria West CPF sub-forum Proclamation Hill, was still in the Kalafong Hospital.
He was recovering from an operation to repair damage to his foot where he was hit.
His mother Zelia Sonja Theron said he was doing much better.
“He will probably stay in the hospital for much longer but today [Tuesday] the doctor will be removing the bandages to clean the wound and see how it looks,” she said.
Zelia said Theron spent three hours on the operating table on Monday morning to removed a bullet and repair shattered bones.
Theron and other members of the CPF were on patrol around 20:00 when three people came running to alert them to a robbery at the Kwik Spar in Danville.
Dewaldt Jordaan, chairperson of the CPF sub-forum, said Theron and other members ran towards the Spar while he and the others got into their vehicles.
“We drove towards the Spar and just as we were about to turn into the road the robbers started shooting at us,” he said.
“We reversed to get away from the fire and then later got the message that Shimon was shot in the leg.”
Jordaan said another sector member and her son were held hostage, with other customers, during the robbery.
“The sector member told us that the robbers wanted cellphones from them. So far, I just know that the robbers apparently got away with the Spar’s sector radio,” said Jordaan.
Xander Loubser from Best Care ambulance services confirmed two patients were taken to different hospital after the shooting.
Zelia said her information was that five robbers with AK47s entered the shop. This was still to be confirmed by the police at the time of going to press.
Police on Tuesday still could not give comment on the matter.
