A necklace was ripped from the occupant of a car in central Pretoria this week, metro police said.

Spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said a man was arrested after this happened on the corner of Es’kia Mphahlele and Johannes Ramokhoase streets on Wednesday.

He would appear in court soon.

Mahamba said the intersection had seen several crimes of items being stolen out of vehicles.

“It is not only drug addicts that commit crimes at this intersection. Thieves steal any valuable items from motor vehicles.”

Mahamba said motorists should always be alert and aware of their surroundings when stopping at traffic lights.

“Keep all windows and doors locked at all times. Motorists should also avoid buying from people selling at intersections.”
