A man was shot dead in his Bon Accord home in Pretoria North on Friday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Rheneith Motlana said this happened after robbers entered the house on a smallholding.

“The victim and his wife were apparently asleep when they heard a noise at the door,” she said.

“The deceased went to check what was happening but he bumped into an armed man who shot him in the chest.”

Motlana said the 47-year-old victim’s wife and daughter managed to get to the door and screamed for help.

“The suspects started shooting randomly before fleeing the scene. Five empty cartridges and one live round were found on the scene,” she said.

Motlana said the man was declared dead on the scene.

“A Samsung LCD flat screen television, laptop and five cellphones were stolen. A murder docket was opened,” she said.
