Two of the men behind the hijacking of a truck carrying six cars in Bronkhorstspruit were arrested in Kwamhlanga on Wednesday.

Bronkhorstspruit spokesperson Captain Sarah Mcira said the two were found at a stop sign in Kwamhlanga driving a white Chevrolet, one of the six cars stolen on Monday.

“Our colleagues in Kwamhlanga identified the suspects and arrested them. We have charged them with hijacking and the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle,” Mcira said.

A third man was still being sought.

The two were being held at the Bronkhorstspruit police station and would appear in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Mcira thanked Kwamhlanga police for their part in the arrest.

The hijacking happened after the truck driver stopped to buy lunch. On his way back to the truck, he was approached by three men who held him at gunpoint.

He was bundled into the boot of a silver Spark Chevrolet and later into that of a white Toyota Corolla.

The men drove around with him, dumped him in Modderfontein and fled.

They took the truck’s trailer carrying the cars, leaving the truck behind.

The truck was transporting two 1.4 Chevrolet Utility cars which were blue and bronze, two Chevrolet Sonics that were white and silver, one white Suzuki bakkie and one white Mahindra single cab.

Police investigations are continuing and we are still searching for the other suspect,” Mcira said.
