ADT and police sniff out bogus victim

Police and security officer arrest woman after falsely claiming she was hijacked.

A bogus hijack-victim was arrested at the weekend, in Heuweloord.

ADT’s Pretoria district manager Leon Muller said an ADT reaction officer was responding to a panic alarm on the corner of Silwer-Eike and Rooshoud avenues at 18:30 on Saturday.

“On arrival, he spotted a suspect jumping over the wall and running toward a silver grey Toyota,” said Muller.

The car was driven by a woman.

The reaction officer, thinking the woman was being hijacked, fired at the car to immobilise it.

Two bullets hit the car — one damaged a tyre and the other the bumper.

Two men jumped out of the car and fled on foot, leaving the woman behind.

According to Muller the woman claimed to be a hijack-victim.

“On further investigation, it turned out the lady was in fact a getaway driver.

“She was immediately arrested by the Wierdabrug police for further questioning,” said Muller.
