Two men and a woman were arrested in Ga-Rankuwa following a shootout, police said on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mathews Nkoadi said police received a complaint about a vehicle driving recklessly in the area near Garankuwa shopping mall.
“Police swiftly rushed to the scene and noticed a Silver Suzuki with four occupants inside. When the vehicle was signalled to stop, one of the occupants started to shoot at the police,” said Nkoadi.
A chase ensued towards Hebron and the fleeing vehicle collided with a Toyota Venture.
“Two male suspects and one female suspect between the ages of 16 and 25-years-old were arrested. The other male suspect managed to flee the scene and is still at large. A firearm was recovered on the scene,” said Nkoadi.
The Suzuki turned out to have been stolen in Lyttelton around August this year.
The suspects will appear in the Garankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearm.
Nkoadi appealed to residents to assist the police to fight fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activities by phoning 082-334-4354.
