Man gets life for kidnapping, torture and rape

A man was sentenced to life for kidnap, torture and rape of a woman in Ga-Rankuwa.

A 57-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years and life imprisonment for kidnap, torture and rape of a woman in Ga-Rankuwa.

Steve Tshikane abducted a 45-year-old woman in March 2012 and held her hostage in his house for two weeks, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said.

“During this period, he cut her with a heated knife, scalded her with water and repeatedly raped her.”

He said the woman eventually managed to escape and reported the incident to the police.

Tshikane was convicted by the Ga-Rankuwa Regional Court and sentenced to 15 years for kidnapping, 15 years for attempted murder and life for rape.

“The first two counts will run concurrently,” said Nkoadi.

Ga-Rankuwa police station commander Colonel Frans Manyaka praised the investigating officer, Constable Vincent Chauke, for his commitment and dedication to the case.

“His hard work secured a conviction and appropriate sentence. This conviction should send a strong message to perpetrators who commit such heinous deeds that no stone will be left unturned to bring them to book and ensure justice prevails.”
