Police are on the trail of two men who hijacked a truck and stole tobacco from it.

Spokesperson for Villieria police, Captain Koba Brits, confirmed that a British American Tobacco vehicle was hijacked on Tuesday, on the corner of Pierneef Street and 24th Avenue.

“A provincial task team is currently investigating the case,” said Brits.

It was reported that while delivering stock to a shop in Pierneef Street, the driver was surprised by two men.

“They forced him to drive to 26th Avenue towards the mountain,” said Brits in a statement.

There, the hijackers offloaded cigarettes to the value of R288 000 into a white single-cab Hilux, then fled the scene.

Brits stated that no firearms were used and no injuries were reported.
