Family robbed on Sunday morning

Family tied up while robbers ransacked the house in Elarduspark.

An Elarduspark family in the east of Pretoria was tied up and covered with blankets while their house was being raided on Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Koba Brits said the house robbery took place at about 04:00 in the De Oude complex.

“It is alleged the occupants were asleep when they were woken by two unknown men wearing balaclavas and woollen gloves. One of them was armed with a pistol and they told the family not to scream,” she said.

Everyone’s hands and feet were tied with cable ties and they were covered with a blanket during the robbery.

Brits said the robbers demanded golden jewellery and the safe key. They did not have the safe key because the previous owners did not hand over the keys.

“The men ransacked the house and took off with two laptops, two cell phones and jewellery. Other items taken are unknown at this stage,” Brits said.

She also mentioned that no shots were fired and the husband was injured when he fell because his hands and feet were tied up.

Police were investigating a case of house robbery. No arrests have been made yet.
