How to keep young children safe

Police offer advice for parents of young children.

Following the three apparent attempted kidnappings of three young children around Pretoria, police have once again urged parents to keep their children safe at all times.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu urged parents at shopping centres to be vigilant at all times.

“Parents should never take their eyes off their children, not even for a brief moment,” said Gumbu.

“Parents should keep their children in sight at all times. This includes rather carrying them than pushing them in prams where they are out of view.”

“Also, do not trust your children to the care of strangers,” said Gumbu.

Dessie Rechner of Pink Ladies – Missing Persons said if a child is ever kidnapped or anyone goes missing, there is no waiting period to report them.

“If anyone ever needs assistance to help find a missing child they can phone us on 072-214-7439.
