Top metro officer probed for assault on girlfriend

Police are investigating a Tshwane metro police officer after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.

Police are investigating assault charges after Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba reportedly beat his girlfriend.

Pretoria North police spokesperson Lieutenant Rebecca Phatlhane said charges had been laid and the matter was being investigated.

“The metro officer [Mahamba] also laid a charge — of malicious damage to property — against her. No arrests have been made,” she told Rekord.

According to reports, Senior Superintendent Mahamba allegedly beat up his girlfriend Josephine Mphaka after she caught him in bed with another woman at his Pretoria north home, last Monday morning.

“He jumped off the bed and slammed me against the wall, and I almost collapsed from the pain to my shoulder. He hit me, handled me roughly and kicked me after I fell down on my face,” she reportedly said.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba said he would not get involved in Mahamba’s personal affairs.

“There are two contradicting versions of what allegedly happened and we will allow the law to run its course. This is a private matter and we do not wish to engage in this,” Bokaba said.
