Rainfall damages parts of Pretoria
Various areas were left damaged and in chaos after heavy rainfall in Pretoria on Monday.
After hail struck parts of the city on Monday morning, heavy rain continued to cause chaos in parts of Pretoria in the evening.
Pretoria North Sector 1 and 2 spokesperson Crystal van Den Berg said various roofs caved in in the north of Pretoria.
“We had a huge hail storm and it was over in thirty minutes. Pretoria North Toyota’s roof fell in, damaging cars.”
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Johan Pieterse said other areas in the north, Pretoria west and Centurion were flooded.
“There is flash flooding in some parts of the north and Soshanguve due to the heavy downfalls. It will take time for the water to subside as the drains are blocked.”
He said several traffic lights were not working and trees had blown over onto the streets.
“We had extra hot weather for a long time and thunderstorms usually follow. We are trying to deal with as many incidents as we can and request the community to bare with us. People prayed for rain and now the Lord has provided”
He urged the public to report any flash floods and damages caused by the rain fall.
