Damaged road now a traffic nightmare
Road dug up and left unrepaired for months.
Weeds and small trees are taking over what used to be a part of Witstinkhout Road in Bronberrick.
Ward councillor Peter Sutton says he has tried to get the road repaired ever since it was first dug up in October 2015.
“A water pipe running along the road burst last year. The metro then dug up a part of the road to access the pipe, which they repaired, but neglected to retar the road. Nothing further has been done since then and plants are growing where the road used to be,” said Sutton.
“The ground was filled up after the pipe was repaired and yellow barriers were erected around the site. The closed-off, unrepaired section of the road is now exacerbating traffic congestion on an already busy road.”
Sutton says he has reported the damaged road to the Tshwane metro roads and stormwater department, but an instruction has yet to be issued for the work to be carried out.
The barriers close off a part of the road between Witstinkhout Road and End Street, forcing motorists to stop and wait for oncoming traffic to pass and then drive around the barriers on the wrong side of the road.
“This road needs to be repaired as soon as possible,” he said.
The Tshwane metro could not immediately be reached for comment.
