A man was shot in a hijacking in Pretoria North on Friday night.

Tienie Vorster of the Akasia Sector 2 Community Policing Forum (CPF) said the hijacking occurred at 20:00 in Broodboom Street, Karenpark.

“The suspects were dropped off close to where the man was hijacked. They then walked to the victim’s house to hijack his car,” Vorster said.

The man was shot in the leg and the four men took him and sped off.

“One of the councillors in the area called us [the CPF]. The CPF in conjunction with the police started looking for the stolen vehicle and its owner,” said Vorster.

Vorster said the vehicle was spotted close to MEDUNSA near Ga-Rankuwa.

“The owner of the vehicle [who was still in the car with the robbers] was taken to Ga-Rankuwa hospital,” he said.

The vehicle was recovered by the Akasia police.

“The police were very quick and did a good job,” said Vorster.

According to Vorster the suspects escaped.

Comment form the Akasia police could not be immediately obtained.
