A robber was shot in an alleged smash and grab incident on Friday night.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said in a statement that the robber was wounded when he was shot by a motorist on the corner of Bloed Street and E’skia Mphahlele Drive.

“Reports from the scene indicate that it was a smash and grab attempt,” Mathe said.

The man was allegedly trying to rob a motorist during peak hour traffic when the motorist apparently shot the man around 18:40.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene to stabilise the wounded robber.”

The man was then taken to a nearby hospital under heavy police guard.
